Focus on Influence

Focus on Influence is the flagship programme of Learning Consortium, an international network of independent consultants and trainers of which I am a member. A simple model is the basis of FoI: to give space, take space or to share space in a conversation. The simplicity of the model, combined with the experiential approach to learning, easily seduces participants to reflect on their own patterns in communication.

e.g. What is your preferred behaviour in a conversation: do you offer the other person space, do you take it, or do you preferr share the space? And what does an observer see that confirms you are doing so?

The programme starts in the workplace, with an online 360 feedback, completely controlled by the participant him- or herself. For many, this feedback is an eye-opener in its own right. During the first part of the programme we practice the behaviours that come with the different uses of the conversational space. As a matter of course everyone runs into his or her own preferences, blocks etc.

The second half of the programme consists mainly of a semi-Open Space. The participants choose from a large numbers of exercises and activities to design the rest of the programme for themselves and together. This design process makes for strong personal involvement and responsibility for each individual’s own developmental process, thereby leading to lasting results.

Originally designed as a 5-day programme, Focus on Influence is nowadays often delivered in a 3½-day format. We count Mars, Umicore en Philips among our satisfied customers. The programme is delivered in English, Dutch, French and German.
